In this sculpture Madame Pompadour has the features of Pomone.

The sculptor, Jean Baptiste Lemoyne is the homonym of Lemoyne the painter (1688-1737), and was part of a generation of sculptors: Jean Baptiste I° (1679-1737) and his brother Jean Louis (1655-1755, his sculptures "The Baptism of Christ" in the church of S. Rocco and “The Neptune” in Versailles).
Jean Baptiste II° was his nephew.
