NOTES:
This is one of the first royal commitments to the manufactory of Sèvres. Madame Pompadour had a couple of vases similar to the one described above; this is a refined piece with a touch of extravagant elegance that matched perfectly with the taste of the Marchioness.

A vase with a water jet, Sèvres porcelain.

NOTES:
This is a half of a couple of vases. The dolphins were probably created to celebrate the Dauphin of France, in 1765. The Marquees of Hertford bought the vase in 1865.

A Greek vase with rosettes.

NOTES:
The sample reflects the neoclassical ides that began to influence the architecture as well as the furniture. This kind of Greek style ornament was introduced in 1763 for the first time.

NOTES:
This kind of kettle was used to warm the vine in the small cup (in the lower part). The steam gave a particular flavour to the egg placed in the container in the upper part.

An inkstand, Sèvres porcelain.

NOTES:
The terrestrial globe contained the ink and the azure globe the sand, to dry the ink while writing. The crown contained the bell and the pad, to dry the pen. Louis XV donated the inkstand to his daughter, Madame Adelaide. In 1843 the fourth Marquees of Hertford bought the piece.

NOTES:
It was probably created as a container for a porcelain bunch of flower.

A vase with dolphins, Sèvres porcelain.

NOTES:
The dolphins were introduced to celebrate the birth of the second son of the Dauphin of France.
Louis-David Armand decorated the vase with some birds.

This vase is part of a set of the Wallace collection; Louis XV bought it in 1759 at the manufactory of Sèvres.

NOTES:
The decoration in the oval is a copy of “Pygmalion and Gala tea”, by Boucher. It was part of a set showed to Louis XV by Prince Henry of Prussia. It was bought in 1860 by the fourth marquees of Hertford.
